Chester-Shade Historical Association

May 2008

Becoming the new president of the Chester Shade Historical Association I know will be a challenge. There is still some work to do on the Chester Academy. It looks like we will have to raise a few more dollars, the price of material has really raised. The Academy is in the last phase of completion. It is anticipated to be finished this summer, with some luck. We hope that people will use the Academy for meeting, reunions, etc.

I have been a resident of Chester for over 20 years and own a local business. I am looking forward to getting more local people involved with the CSHA.  We always need volunteers to help with our events, education programs, and daily activities. Even a couple of hours in a week or month can help accomplish a lot, jobs are easy and there is always someone to help show you what to do. We can use people of all  ages. Our calendar of events is listed on line www.chestercourthouse.com.

The courthouse has many museum displays, some change occasionally to entice you and visitors to come in. If you have a suggestion for displays or have items you are willing to loan, quilts, items representative of the community, or family memorabilia to display in the museum, let me know.

If you have ideas of what you would like to see changed or new plans to be developed, please write me or call me (740-985-3857) to discuss your ideas or if you wish, you can attend a meeting to present your ideas. We meet the first Thursday each month at 7:00 P.M. in the Chester Courthouse and everyone is welcome.
